FAQ’s Concerning Our Community Groups & Group Link

WHY IS NMCC A CHURCH MADE UP OF COMMUNITY GROUPS?
At North Madison Christian Church, we believe that the Community Group (small group) is the best place for sustained life change to occur. In a Community Group, people study God's Word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It's also where they pray,  care for one another, and are missed if they don't show up. Practically speaking, there will never be a way for the ministerial staff  or elders to personally minister to everyone who attends our church. That's why we place such a high premium on Community Group life.  It's how we minister more effectively at North Madison Christian Church.

WHAT ARE COMMUNITY GROUPS?
We believe that Community Groups are the place where sustained life change occurs. Community Groups are where real life and real issues  are discussed. This is the environment where we celebrate the successes and good times of life, as well as comfort one another during the tough and disappointing times. It is a place to be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

HOW DO I JOIN A COMMUNITY GROUP?
You can join a Community Group simply by attending the next GroupLink, which is scheduled for August of this year.  Before that date just email our          Pastor of Membership Development, Robby King, at
robbyking@northmadisonchristian.net. Robby will help you find a group which is open or is                 starting brand new.

WHEN AND WHERE DO COMMUNITY GROUPS MEET?
Most of our groups generally meet Monday through Thursday evenings.  Community Groups normally meet in one of the group member's homes.           Sometimes the location is consistent, and sometimes other group members enjoy taking turns hosting the group meeting at their house.  During the                   summer months most of our community groups take a break or meet just once a month.

HOW OFTEN DO COMMUNITY GROUPS MEET?
Most groups normally meet weekly. Some groups meet for three weeks out of the month and either take off the fourth week or do a social activity           together. Many of our groups only meet occasionaly throughout the summer months.

HOW LONG DOES EACH MEETING LAST?
Each Community Group picks the length of time they will meet. However, most groups meet for an hour and a half to two hours.

WHAT GOES ON AT A COMMUNITY GROUP MEETING?
Though each group differs in how they do things, many groups have a social time in the beginning, then they transition to a time where they discuss               the book or DVD series they are studying and pray for each other. At the very beginning of the group, the whole group decides how much time                     they will spend on social, discussion, and prayer time (as well as the order in which they take place).

WHAT DO THEY STUDY?
Each group picks their own curriculum to study with the help of the Pastor of Membership Development, Robby King.

IS CHILDCARE PROVIDED FOR EACH GROUP MEETING?
We understand that the expense of childcare can be a deterrent to joining and participating in a community group. Because we are committed to              reducing the obstacles facing people attempting to get into community, the church reimburses its members monthly at a predetermined rate of                            $7 for their childcare expenses. Community Group Childcare Reimbursement Forms can be obtained and returned at the Welcome Center.

 A. WHAT IS GROUPLINK?
GroupLink is an event where you will connect with others and form a Community Group.

B. WHAT HAPPENS AT GROUPLINK?
Great tailgate food will be served while you meet others with who you could potentially be in a group. After meeting with the others, new                           groups will be formed or people will added to existing Community Groups.

C. IS CHILDCARE PROVIDED AT GROUPLINK?
Childcare is not provided, but we do reimburse  for babysitters needed in order to attend the GroupLink event. Childcare reimbursement forms                        are provided at GroupLink.

D. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GROUPLINK AND A COMMUNITY GROUP?
GroupLink is an event designed to help people join a community group and to begin new groups as well. Community groups are small groups                             of approximately 6 married couples or 8-12 individuals or a blending of both that meet weekly in someone's home for fellowship, Bible study,                           and prayer.

E. WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO GROUPLINK?
Please contact Robby King, Pastor of Membership Development if you would like to join a group now.

Next GroupLink will be in August of 2010. The date and times have yet to be determined.
